History
Since its establishment until 1945 Dębno was located in Branderburg. German names of the town changed: Thamb, Damm, Dame, Neudamm, and at last it stayed - Dębno. The town from its very beginning didn’t have any defence walls, it was enclosed with a moat and lake. The settlement was lived by the Slav community of Wends who were so called by German chronicle writers. Through the ages our locality changed owners, to whom belonged: Brandenburg margraves, Templars, Malta Order and several others.

The biggest credit for the development of Dębno is given to the wife of margrave Jan, Catherine. She contributed to the conferment of municipal rights and the development of industry and trade. During religious persecutions in the 16th century a pretty big group of Netherlandic clothiers settled in Dębno. Cloth factories were built and the town became rich. At that time founded were also: the school, the church with a presbytery, and the hospital. Soon afterwards also the printing house of Christopher Runge, and the paper-mill. After the death of the margrave Jan the town fell into decline. However, in the 18th century it regenerated, its population grew, and the town started to develop. In 1730, from the hands of the emperor Frederic Wilhelm I, Dębno received its municipal rights and the right of independence. At that time there were many craftsman′s works, among them cloths, shoemaker′s, tailor′s, locksmith′s, potter′s, carpenter′s and slaughter-houses and smithies. After the period of wars and epidemics Dębno revived only at the end of 19th century. The construction of new roads, the railway connection with Stargard, gas street lighting, the foundation of the savings bank, the school of general education and the fireman′s depot to name just a few of the events of those years.

The First World War resulted in the fall of the number of Dębno population. However, between WW I and WW II the town became an attractive leisure centre (thanks to its location, nearby forests, lakes and its microclimate). Beautiful forest avenues, cafes, shops... at that time every bit of that was for tourists, and of course for Dębno inhabitants. In the thirties, in the town there were several offices of the public administration, the clothes and cloth industry prospered, there were  also factories producing hats, machine parts, engines, stoves, the factory of cigars and large printing works.
